Silence…

Not just the absence of sound. It’s a state, a feeling.

Some people are uncomfortable with silence. They constantly need to hear some sound. They turn on the television, they listen to music, they talk on the phone…

But I love silence. Especially in recent years, I started to need silence more.

Silence is where I can hear my inner voice. When everything is quiet, I can think more clearly. I can understand my feelings better.

That’s why I spend time alone from time to time. I turn off my phone, I don’t turn on the television. I just sit and stay with silence.

At first, silence can be uncomfortable. Because you’re forced to confront yourself. All your thoughts, all your feelings come to the surface.

But if you can overcome this discomfort, silence gives you great peace. You realize how valuable it is to be alone with yourself.

In silence, you can hear nature’s sounds better too. The chirping of birds, the rustling of trees, the sound of wind… These sounds are normally drowned out by the noise of the city. But in silence, they become audible.

Silence also improves your relationships with people. Because when you’re comfortable with silence, you don’t feel the need to fill every moment with words. You can just be together, in silence, and this can be more valuable than many words.

So don’t be afraid of silence. Give yourself the gift of silence from time to time. You’ll see how good it is for you…
