Sometimes forgetting is beautiful…

Forgetting the pains, the disappointments, the hurts…

Of course I don’t mean amnesia. What I mean is not carrying the weight of the past constantly on your shoulders.

Every person experiences many things throughout their life. Good and bad, beautiful and ugly, happy and sad… All of these are parts of life.

But some people can’t let go of the bad experiences they’ve had. They constantly remember, constantly think about them. They can’t free themselves from the grip of the past.

And this drags them into unhappiness. Because it’s impossible to be happy while constantly thinking about painful memories.

I used to be like that too. I would constantly remember bad things I experienced, I would constantly worry about them. “If only this hadn’t happened,” “If only I had done that instead,” I would constantly say things like that.

But at some point I realized this was making me very unhappy. And I decided to change it.

Of course this wasn’t easy. Getting rid of old habits never is. But I succeeded to a large extent.

How? By choosing to forgive and let go. By choosing to forgive both others and myself.

I decided not to constantly remember the things that made me unhappy, the people who hurt me. Instead, I decided to focus on the present moment and the future.

And this made me much happier. Because when you don’t carry the weight of the past, you become lighter. You can breathe more easily, you can laugh more easily.

Of course forgetting the past doesn’t mean not learning from it. On the contrary, we should learn from our mistakes and bad experiences. But after learning, we should let them go.

Just like we delete unnecessary files from our computer, we should delete unnecessary painful memories from our minds.

Because our mind is not a garbage dump. It should only contain things that will add value to our lives, things that will make us happy.

So sometimes forgetting is beautiful. And it’s necessary…
